Robber who held up 2 N.J. stores with butcher knife caught trying to escape on Jitney bus, cops say

A Morris County woman was arrested Tuesday after police say she tried to rob a Paramus clothing store while armed with a butcher knife and fled on a Jitney bus.

The robbery would have been the woman’s second heist in less than two weeks, but this time the cashier couldn’t get the register open, police said.

Nicole L. Travers, 32, of Landing, was arrested Tuesday after police say she tried to rob a Mandee clothing store, according to Deputy Chief Robert M. Guidetti of the Paramus Police Department.

Guidetti said Travers is the woman who entered the Abercrombie & Fitch Kids store in the Westfield Garden State Plaza shortly before 6 p.m. on May 16, showed the cashier a butcher knife and grabbed about $900 cash from the register.

She fled the mall and escaped by boarding a Jitney-style bus, Guidetti said.

About 2 p.m. Tuesday, a woman brandishing a butcher knife tried to rob the Mandee store on Route 4 in Paramus, police said.

“The cashier reported she was unable to open the cash drawer so the suspect fled, discarding the knife in the parking lot and boarding a Jitney-style bus,” Guidetti said in an email.
